Phytocannabinoids are plant-based compounds that come from a variety of common foods and botanical sources, but are most abundant in medicinal hemp. They include cannabidiolic acid, cannabidiol, cannabigerol and cannabivarin. There are over 80 known phytocannabinoids, but most studies to date have focused on about a dozen. Research shows that phytocannabinoids perform a vital role in the proper functioning of the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). Phytocannabinoids can also be found in chocolate, black truffles, cloves, and pepper.
